Space Explorer Badge in a Bag®
Compliment school learning about stars and
space with this fun kit.
Get it while you can! This "Bag" is being discontinued to make room for new "Badge in a Bags". The Brownie Space Explorer Try-It is being retired by GSUSA. Make sure to pick up your Try-Its from the council store while they still have availablity.
LESS
THAN 30ยข PER PROJECT Kit contains supplies for a maximum of 12
scouts to do four activities. Order a "bag of extras" for troops up to
16. Order 2 full bags for troops of 17 or more.
This "bag" provides hands-on fun for learning about the
sun, moon and stars. Available
with a "Bag of Extras" for leaders who like to make samples, have extra
supplies on hand or to stretch your kit for four additional girls. If
you are a Brownie leader and would like to use this kit to
complete your Space Explorer Try-It here is our suggestion for
fulfilling the requirements. Of course, it is not meant to infringe upon
your own interpretation of the badge or the requirements printed in the
Try-It book.
Requirement 1 - Viewing The Night Sky
Go stargazing and make a magnet that represents a
constellation you saw. Younger girls can "invent" their own
constellations. If you want,
print a sky map of your local sky. Kit includes large foamie oval,
star stickers, and magnet. You'll also need glue to attach the magnet.
Project will take about 10 minutes
to complete not including the time spent stargazing.
Requirement 2 - Charting the Moon
Chart the moon once a week for a month and observe the changing shape.
Kit includes preprinted chart. You'll need your pencil or pen. Project will take about
10 minutes to complete over the month.
Requirement 4 - Make a Sun Dial
This project will fascinate your troop! You'll need scissors and glue.
We also used yellow and black paint and a paint brush. Project will take about
20 minutes to complete if painting plus the time spend observing the sun
dial through out the day.
Requirement 6 - Star Projector
Here's a real kid-pleaser. Make a projector to view constellations. You'll need scissors, glue,
and a working flashlight. We also used black paint and a paint brush. Project will take about
20 minutes to complete if painting plus the time spend observing the
constellations. (Warning: this project requires poking a big safety pin
through card board and may not be suitable for younger girls. Troop
leaders may want to complete this part of the project themselves.)

Testimonial:
We loved doing these projects. My girls are learning about space in
school and really enjoyed the hands on reinforcement. I'm looking
forward to using my other "Badge in a Bag" later in the year.
